GRUM

February 22, 2010

So, those of you that know, you definetly know that I love dance music.  I don’t post alot of it, but it really is a passion of mine.  I mean c’mon, I have been djing for about 10 years now.  I get it, I love it.

So I am gonna do a dance music post.  For those of you that are not into it, well, dismiss.  For those of you that do like dance music, well, here ya go.

I was browsing around in my Itunes and started to play some of the GRUM tracks that I have.  Woah, why the hell did I not post this earlier?  No idea.  I drink alot.  Anyhow, Graeme Shepherd aka GRUM is a DJ/Producer out of the UK.  His shit is dope!  Yes, dope.  He does alot of indie/electro styled beats with his own signature sound.  He is also got some pretty big remixes under his belt as well.  This guy has remixed everything from Lady Gaga to Kings of Leon.  Right, right?  I am not gonna post that stuff though.  I would rather you hear some of his more raw tunes.  Enjoy.

Keenhouse – Ar-ies (GRUM remix)

Passion Pit – To Kingdom Come (GRUM vocal mix)

The Lost Fingers – Pump Up the Jam

Local Natives

February 18, 2010

So while I was bumbling around the internet last night I came across some indie-folksy awesomeness.  The Local Natives are a quintet from California and really are quite special.  They kinda remind of the rock bands of the very late past.  You know, all that stuff from the 60’s.  I could be wrong, but that was my first impression.  Also what impresses me about this band is the fact that they have three vocalist.  Can you say “harmonizing”?  It’s effin great!  I think this band will give label mates Temper Trap a run for their money.  See for yourself.

Local Natives – Airplanes

Local Natives – Sun Hands

Local Natives – Camera Talk

Cold Cave

February 16, 2010

Next Tuesday I will have the luxury of going to see Matador recording artist Cold Cave at the infamous Grog Shop in Cleveland.  I must say, I am pretty excited.  Not only will I have a chance to go watch a good electronic act, I will also be able to hang with my wife and some of my closest friends.  It’s not everyday that I have a chance to boogie down to good acts and get myself into some drunkin shannanigans.  Anyway, Cold Cave mixes electro/electronic beats with swirling guitars and Ian Curtis-esque vocals.  What more could ya want, right?  If ya get a chance, go to the show.  Tickets are pretty damn cheap.  If you can’t do that, buy their new cd Love Comes Close.  It’s definetly good stuff!!

Cold Cave – Love Comes Close

Cold Cave – Life Magazine

Cold Cave – The Trees Grew Emotions and Died

Weird Science

February 15, 2010

Well, I am pretty excited!  Dan Black has got a new EP.  Obviously from the pic above it is titled “Weird Science”.  For you readers that know, you know that Dan Black is a fav of mine.  The guy does make some genius pop music.  Also, his LP “Un” just got released in the U.S. this week.  Hopefully he will get some good support here.  He really does deserve it.

Dan Black – Gorecki Fix Up My Girlfriend Some More

Here is a bonus off  of Un.  One of my favorites.

Dan Black – Let Go

Yeasayer

February 13, 2010

Ever have one of those days where a band is presented to you and you dismiss them because it was not what you wanted to hear at the moment.  Yeah, well, I made that mistake with this group.  I messed up.  I was not listening.  As of late a friend of mine mentioned them.  He thought I would really enjoy them.  So I purchased their new album Odd Blood.  Guess what, I love them.  Yeasayer is an awesome blend of electronic poppy goodness.  Don’t believe me, well listen for yourself.  If they do not hook you the first time, do yourself a favor and listen to them again.  I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Yeasayer – Love Me Girl (So far this is my favorite.  Love the long intro.)

Yeasayer – Ambling Alp

Yeasayer – Rome

Snow Day

February 10, 2010

So Mother Nature decided to dump a whole bunch of the white stuff on us for the past 24 hours.  Thanks.  Much appreciated.  I didn’t have to wake up early and go to work.  Have not showered yet.  Hell, I am still in my pajamas.  It’s been a good day so far.  Hanging with the fam, sipping on a cocktail, listening to music.  These days are quite rare.  It’s to bad really.  So, Mather Nature, if you are listening, bring it on.  Dump this fluffy white stuff more.  Please!!!
