James Yuill

March 17, 2010

So this St. Patrick’s Day I have decided to refrain from my usual shannanigans and behave.  I decided it was just best to stay in.  I did however at lunch have a Smithwick’s to toast this great saint of boozing.  So since I have decided to stay in for the evening and I did what I usually do when I have free time, look for new music.  With doing this I feel like I have hit the jackpot tonight.  This fine evenings discovery is British singer/songwriter James Yuill.

James brings a brilliant balance of acoustics and electronics.  He manages to use beats for the backbone and then layer his meloncholy guitars and vocals upon them.  It’s brilliant.  It’s “folktronica”?  Maybe.  Either way it definetly hit the spot.  James is also in good company as far as it goes for label mates.  His new album Turning Down Water For Air is on Moshi Moshi Records.  This label has also signed great artist such as Hot Chip, Lykke Li, Bloc Party, and Friendly Fires.  Give James a shot.  I’m pretty sure you will appreciate him as much as I do.

Chemistry

March 17, 2010

So, yesterday I posted about the Broken Bells.  Well holy shit, the “Web Sheriff” got on my ass hardcore.  They asked me to remove certian items from the post, which I did immediatly.  Well I guess that was not good enough for the “Sheriff” of the wild, wild internet.  I log on to my blog this morning and they contacted WordPress as well.  In doing so WordPress puts a freeze on my account.  So I email WordPress and asked them what was up.  They responded very quickly, which is a big thumbs up for WordPress, and told me that they removed certian items and that all my functions have been restored to normal.

I guess the problem that I have with this whole thing is that I did what the “Sheriff” asked me to do quickly.  I complied to what their client was asking me to do.  They do not want me to publish their music without their permission.  I fucking get it.  Although I do think that it was somewhat of a wanker move to complain to WordPress when I complied with their request.  Fucking “Sheriff”!  Do I get to write a complaint to them and tell them not to look at this blog.  Doubt it.

Now that I got that off my chest, on to what matters most, the music.

Former members of the former band Protocol have united to bring us The Bang Bang Club.  This new synth-pop duo from the UK first reminded me of Empire of the Sun.  Upon second and third lesson I realized that they are not even in the same realm.  This is pop genius.  It is one of the most perfectly crafted songs that I have heard in awhile.  Better yet it is as happy as Richard Simmons surrounded by large people and spandex.  It will definetly make you wanna shake your shit.  Spandex or not.

February 22, 2010

So, those of you that know, you definetly know that I love dance music.  I don’t post alot of it, but it really is a passion of mine.  I mean c’mon, I have been djing for about 10 years now.  I get it, I love it.

So I am gonna do a dance music post.  For those of you that are not into it, well, dismiss.  For those of you that do like dance music, well, here ya go.

I was browsing around in my Itunes and started to play some of the GRUM tracks that I have.  Woah, why the hell did I not post this earlier?  No idea.  I drink alot.  Anyhow, Graeme Shepherd aka GRUM is a DJ/Producer out of the UK.  His shit is dope!  Yes, dope.  He does alot of indie/electro styled beats with his own signature sound.  He is also got some pretty big remixes under his belt as well.  This guy has remixed everything from Lady Gaga to Kings of Leon.  Right, right?  I am not gonna post that stuff though.  I would rather you hear some of his more raw tunes.  Enjoy.

Local Natives

February 18, 2010

So while I was bumbling around the internet last night I came across some indie-folksy awesomeness.  The Local Natives are a quintet from California and really are quite special.  They kinda remind of the rock bands of the very late past.  You know, all that stuff from the 60’s.  I could be wrong, but that was my first impression.  Also what impresses me about this band is the fact that they have three vocalist.  Can you say “harmonizing”?  It’s effin great!  I think this band will give label mates Temper Trap a run for their money.  See for yourself.

Local Natives – Airplanes

Local Natives – Sun Hands

Local Natives – Camera Talk
